Northwest Association of Environmental Professionals

Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Scholarship Recipients — 2025

Our DEI scholarship, established in 2021, supports the next, more-diverse generation of environmental professionals by providing up to $2,000 for NWAEP Membership and NAEP conference expenses like registration, travel, and room and board.

We are so excited to offer this scholarship! Thank you to the NWAEP community and GSI Water Solutions, Inc. for making this scholarship possible.

Announcing our 2025 DEI Scholarship Recipients:

In 2025, NWAEP's Scholarship Committee looked for a student who was inspiring in their pursuit of experience in the environmental field and found not one but two worthy candidates: Mustakim Akhmedov and Madison Anzarut!

Mustakim Akhmedov

Mustakim is a practitioner from Tajikistan with a background in water resources management. He has more than 13 years of experience in various aspects of water resources management, including local, national and transboundary levels in the region of Central Asia both from policy and practice perspectives. Currently he is pursuing an MA degree in the US on water policy and management. He plans to discuss his research on water resource management in the region of Central Asia, including Afghanistan at the NAEP Annual Conference.

Madison Anzarut

Madison, originally from Mid-Michigan, is a second-year Master’s student in the Water Resource Science program at Oregon State University. Her research integrates microbial and isotopic analyses with machine learning to track nitrate contamination sources in groundwater within the Lower Umatilla Basin Groundwater Management Area. She will present her findings at the NAEP Annual Conference, discussing how an integrated microbial and biogeochemical framework provides a robust and innovative method for predicting land use.

We look forward to supporting Mustakim and Madison at the NAEP 2025 Annual Conference & Training Symposium, and following their future environmental careers. Members or organizations who wish to sponsor future scholarships or consider our other sponsorship levels can visit our Sponsorship page for more information, or email thenwaep@gmail.com with questions.
